When choosing what laptop computer you want to purchase there are many things you need to consider. The first decision should always be do you want a new laptop or notebook computer or will a second hand one do?
The second hand market is full of some great bargins, if you must have the latest state of the art laptop computer the second hand market might not be right for you.

Definitely go for as much memory as you can afford, but don't forget if your computer is only ever going to run a windows 32bit operating system like XP, or the 32 bit version of Vista or Windows 7 the computer can only use 3gb of memory effectively. So spending more on memory than 3gb in these scenarios is just a waste of money.
If purchasing a second hand computer you may find a vast array of operating systems. Make sure the software you want to run will work under the operating systems you are going to purchase.
The last major consideration in the what laptop debate is how big a hard disk you want, again go as big as you can as files and computer programs are getting increasingly larger as the years go on.
Lastly consider accessories like internal DVD drives, web cameras, number of ports and type of ports.
